You May Say, I'm A Dreamer, & I'd Have to Agree

There is so much to say about each place we went over fall break, so I have to break them up in different posts. This post is about Prague, Czech Republic, which we did not have nearly enough time in. From being in Prague for less than 48 hours, I could tell it was the type of city that you could find new things every day if you lived there- there were a lot of hidden gems.

We arrived in Prague late afternoon, quite tired. We had spent a lot of time in the airports because our shuttle wanted to get us there early, which led to a lot of just waiting around. When we got to Prague we had a true Czech dinner at a restaurant right near our hostel. I got a turkey breast stuffed with cheese and jam- very good. Maddy got a chicken with ham and cheese- also very good. We both agreed this was the best meal we had in our week, like something our mother's would make. (shoutout moms)

Our hostel in Prague was very nice, but HUGE. We didn't have a close vibe like we did in Budapest, and didn't really meet people easily, but it was very clean and a nice place to relax- which is what we needed as we had one day to explore all of Prague the next day. We both had a few friends who had lived in Prague, so we had a full itinerary to follow to see all that we wanted in one day- which would lead us to walk 11 miles that day.

We started out by exploring Old Town and Old Town Square, which was just as it sounds. It was a beautiful town area filled with old architecture, and people playing instruments around every corner. Walking through cobblestone streets and seeing Old Town was so relaxing and beautiful in its own way- I knew it was something I would always remember about Prague.

After this, we walked across the Charles Bridge to the other side of Prague, which was beautiful in itself, but then we saw a small bank that had at least 30 swans nestled in it, so we had to explore. We walked down to the river and these swans were HUGE. Maddy is about 5'2'', and when they spread their wings they were approximately her size. It was scary, and all I could think about the whole time was how my sister would actually be peeing her pants, as she is petrified of swans, ducks, geese, etc. So we strategized a way to walk through the swans down to the river, which was one of the most funny things we did.

Then, after clearly making it through the swans, we headed down to the John Lennon Wall. I didn't know the history of the wall, but knew the main premise behind it. But, once we got there I learned more of the importance of what it represented, freedom. It is kind of unexplainable how I felt while being at the wall, maybe it was the man playing John Lennon music while we were there, but I felt very happy at the wall, it was definitely my favorite experience in Prague.

When we left the wall we went and hiked up toward the Prague Castle and gardens, as we were told it was something we had to see. While we were walking around we found so many palaces and cute alleyways that we explored. When we got to the top, we saw one of the best views I have seen in Europe. The city of Prague could be seen in all senses, the modern part with skyscrapers and the old town part that we had just explored, as well as a grassy area which we would later hike up.

The rest of the day was a lot of exploring and walking, which was just fun to do in Prague. There were so many little things that weren't important or major tourist attractions, but just interesting to look at and see. We went to a place called the Pub for dinner which was a very cool atmosphere where the tables had taps and you poured your own beer. We attempted to get a cab to pick us up here- key word attempt (check out my tips for ways to not get into trouble with this). And this was the end of our very short Prague adventure.

Next stop- Paris!!

We agreed Prague was the most interesting city we went to- not as populated as Budapest or Paris, but very enchanting in detail.

~We will meet again, in Paris~
